Each year, the National Book Awards nominates books for four differrent categories: Poetry, Young People’s Literature, Nonfiction, and Fiction. The Longlist for this year’s Young People’s Literature has been announced. This year, the longlist includes a range of novels including, a Civil Rights Activist’s journey about fighting for freedom, a tale of a girl trying to cope with her father who abandoned her family, a story of a woman who survived the Nagasaki bombing, a novel about a boy and a fox, and a few unique romance tales.
This year, the judges consist of authors, William Alexander, Valerie Lewis, Katherine Paterson, Ellen Oh, and Laura Ruby.
