My dear muggles and wizards, our time has finally come! In honor of the anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone which premiered 20 years ago today, our favorite magical trio Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint plus director Christopher Columbus, are reuniting to discuss their magical adventures. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts and will premiere on HBO Max on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2022.
Not to mention the special will include tons of other magical guests. The special, according to HBO Max, will “tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new, in-depth interviews and cast conversations”. Endless butterbeer rounds on me people!
Other Wizarding World alumni that’s joining the special are Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart. However, author J.K.Rowling is missing from the list of attendants.
Even though the franchise has legions of diverse devoted fans, Rowling has had an explosive year filled with backlash from LGBTQ+ activists, the trans community, and even her own cast members after stating that transgender individuals should be defined by their biological sex.
Sources close to the project note that the retrospective will focus on the creation of the film and the central cast. Expanding the world of Harry Potter seems to be a top priority for HBO/Warner Bros. due to their recent decision to create a Harry Potter game show and consistent rumors about HBO Max looking for scripts to take the wizarding world to the small screen.

As a devoted Potterhead, this is probably the best news I heard of all year and I most definitely will be tuning in! Besides, what’s better than a Hogwarts holiday? Will you be watching?
