Bioware’s Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition both feature the companion Varric Tethras – surface dwarf, bestselling author, and reluctant adventurer. Within the Dragon Age universe, Varric’s breakout book was a crime novel titled Hard in Hightown. In Inquisition, the player could collect various fragments of the book scattered across the world, but now for the first time, the full novel is available to read.

Hard in Hightown was written by Mary Kirby, Varric’s character writer for both games in which he appears. She did an in-character interview for Polygon, writing answers “for” him, or from his perspective.
