Deadline reports that Anthony Mackie recently signed a deal to star in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Captain America 4 (unofficial title). Not surprisingly, specific details about the project are under lock and key. Marvel is not yet disclosing whether Sebastian Stan will star alongside Mackie in the film, as the two actors recently appeared together in The Falcon & the Winter Soldier on Disney+.

According to Deadline, Mackie’s commitment to Captain America 4 indicates a significant step in the actor’s career. Mackie studied at Julliard and has demonstrated his talents in multiple films since graduating. Such movies include 8 Mile, The Hurt Locker, and The Banker. His character Falcon in The Falcon & the Winter Soldier is Captain America’s own sidekick and successor. So far, Mackie has six Marvel film credits to his name, with Captain American: The Winter Soldier (2014) being the first.

If you haven’t seen The Falcon & the Winter Soldier yet, Tor provides a helpful synopsis to introduce you to the show. The series’ events begin six months after Avengers: Endgame (2019) when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), the original Captain America, stepped down from the role. Now, Sam Wilson (Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Stan) must navigate through a world “in which the role of Captain America [isn’t] clear.” The United States government initially picks special forces soldier John Walker (Wyatt Russell) to replace Rogers, but after an unfortunate turn of events, Wilson is the one who “picks up the shield.”

Malcolm Spellman (head writer and creator for The Falcon & the Winter Soldier) will pen the script for Captain America 4 alongside Dalan Musson. No director is announced as of now.
