Beasts of Prey Gets A Netflix Adaptation Before Publication

The first book in a planned fantasy series by Ayana Gray, Beasts of Prey, is set to be adapted into a Netflix film.

It’s official! The first book in an upcoming YA fantasy series by Ayana Gray, Beasts of Prey, has been picked up by Netflix. The news comes just before the book’s official release date, September 28, 2021. As Gray’s debut novel, it has received quite an exciting homecoming into the world.

According to the book’s blurb, Beasts of Prey follows “Black teenagers… as they journey into a magical jungle to hunt down the vicious monster who is threatening their home. But as they begin to discover ancient deadly secrets, it quickly becomes unclear whether they are the hunters… or the hunted.”

Set in the city of Lkossa, a place where magic no longer exists, Beasts of Prey sounds like the perfect thing for fans of high fantasy and OwnVoices stories. It has received glowing commendations from early readers reviewers calling it, “wildly original.”

Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of The Gilded Wolves, quotes it as being, “downright transcending – a tale full of heart and magic… sure to ensorcell readers body, bone and soul.”

The adaptation is in safe hands with Melody Cooper who has worked on Two Sentence Horror Stories and Law and Order: SVU, set to write the screenplay. Clubhouse Pictures will produce the adaptation with Scott Martin as the executive producer.
