The acclaimed Regency-era Netflix drama is back in operation! According to Variety, production for season two of Bridgerton has resumed following a brief shutdown when two individuals on the set tested positive for COVID-19. Netflix did not disclose information as to whether the individuals who tested positive were from the cast or crew, writes Collider. However, Netflix did report that they went into isolation.
Chris Van Dusen, a Bridgerton showrunner confirmed, “We are back under way. We had to delay because of COVID, but we’re back in it…Right now I’m in post, editing our first couple episodes, which are looking great.” At the moment, Van Dusen is moving back-and-forth between the sets in London and Los Angeles, reports Variety.
Production for Bridgerton was “shut down indefinitely in mid-July” after the second person tested positive for COVID-19, states Variety. The historical drama was not the only in-progress television show affected by positive cases; HBO’s House of the Dragon also paused their production for a few days after a crew member tested positive. Collider reports as of now, the temporary delay does not seem to affect the original premiere date for the second season.
Bridgerton season two is centered around Anthony Bridgerton (portrayed by Jonathan Bailey), the oldest child in the Bridgerton family, and his “quest to find a suitable partner,” writes Variety. “We pick up Anthony after we’ve seen what he’s been through with his mistress. He’s thinking, ‘Was that love?’ Some would call it that, others would not. We’re exploring those concepts of duty and honor once again,” Van Dusen said.
The Bridgerton show is based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels. The eight-book series takes place during the Regency Era, between 1813 and 1827. Each of the eight books focuses on one of the eight Bridgerton siblings. The first four books are narrated by the “mysterious” Lady Whistledown through her gossip columns.
