Daniel Radcliffe Forgives Himself for ‘Harry Potter’ Performance

While Daniel Radcliffe was once embarrassed by his performances in the Harry Potter films, he has since changed his mind.

Adaptations Fandom Harry potter Pop Culture

As fans, we often speak about how the Harry Potter universe changed our lives. We talk about how the book series and films influenced our childhoods and how we still consider ourselves part of the fandom, even as adults. But what’s often missed is how impactful the series was to those who contributed to the film adaptations of the novels. Daniel Radcliffe, for example, is never one to shy away from stating his opinions on his performances in the films. However, while he was once embarrassed by his acting in the earlier films, Radcliffe has recently revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend that his opinion has since changed.

At thirty-one years old, Radcliffe now sees his early Potter days as “sweet” and something he may watch with his children one day. To be entirely fair, think about the embarrassing photos and videos we took as pre-teens. For Radcliffe and his fellow co-stars, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, those embarrassing years were captured on film for everyone to watch for years to come. At the start of the franchise, they were all brand new to the acting scene, and their young ages combined with their lack of experience resulted in the unsurprising fact that their early performances were not quite award-worthy.

However, even Roger Ebert praised the children in the first film, referring to it as “a classic, one that will be around for a long time.” As the films proceed, we watch each of these young actors grow not only into themselves but also into their craft. Imagine how wonderful it will be for Radcliffe to show such an impactful piece of his life to his future children. We can’t wait to hear all about that experience!
