Disenchanted will bring back the star-studded cast from the first film—including Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel, who will all reprise their roles—as well as bring in new characters played by Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays. Disney legends Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz have returned to write songs for the film. And while we do not yet know the release date for the film, you can expect Disenchanted to be released exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.

Rumors around an Enchanted sequel began in 2010 when Disney realized that the film had such success even after its initial release. However, it wasn’t until 2014 when Disney hired its screenwriters for the film and 2016 when they hired Shankmann to direct. The script still wasn’t completed in March 2019, and it wasn’t until December 2020 that Disenchanted was actually greenlit by Disney. Apparently, this is due to its new writer, Brigitte Hales, whose work finally pushed the project forward after a decade of delays.

Let us know in the comments below if you’re just as excited as we are for this long-awaited sequel!
