Recently, John Lutz published an article discussing how, if the new Dune adaptation gets a sequel, the following film will switch leads from Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides to Zendaya’s Chani.
This is, of course, with the caveat that the current Dune film set for theatrical release is successful enough to warrant a sequel. The first film will adapt only a portion of Frank Herbert‘s novel, and a second one would take on the rest of the book.
A second film could be extremely beneficial, as Dune is quite a thick book. Of course, it all depends on how well the upcoming does in the box office.
Given that Dune focuses mostly on Paul Atreides as the protagonist of the book, switching over to Chani partway through would provide viewers and readers alike with a point of view that has not been previously explored before. The first film will be released in October of 2021, and this follows other Dune adaptations that has baffled and also been lauded by critics.
Zendaya is also known for her roles in the two most recent Spider Man films, HBO’s Euphoria, and Space Jam. At this time, it is unknown whether she would be replaced in a second Dune film due to her tight filming schedule.
Here’s to the first movie doing well!
