Game of Thrones stars Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa proved their friendship is as strong as ever when the two reunited this past weekend. According to Entertainment Weekly, the pair met up during David Benioff’s (one of the Game of Thrones showrunners) birthday. Clarke and Momoa treated fans to some fun pictures on Instagram, as they often do when they’re at the same location together.

Clarke’s photo depicts Momoa cradling her in his arms, with the caption: “When your sun and stars rolls into town you check that he can still bench press a Khaleesi.” Given that Momoa is 6’4” compared to Clarke’s 5’2”, it seems like he had no trouble bench-pressing our beloved Mother of Dragons.

In Momoa’s photos, Clarke is perched on his lap with both actors radiantly smiling at the camera. His caption states, “MOON OF MY LIFE. you are wonderful love u forever…happy birthday benioff you handsome generous badass leo aloha j.” Momoa also commented, “love u forever moon of my life” on Clarke’s photo, accompanied by some emoji hearts.

In the first season of Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa played Khal Drogo, leader of the Dothraki. Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen on the show for all eight seasons. In season one, Clarke’s on-screen brother Viserys Targaryen (played by Harry Lloyd) married Daenerys off to Khal Drogo to acquire himself an army. “Sun and stars” and “moon of my life” are the endearing names Daenerys and Drogo call each other on the show, and how Clarke and Momoa refer to one another in real life too. As Winter is Coming reminds us, although many believe Clarke and Momoa would make a great match in real life, Momoa is “happily married” to Lisa Bonet, and the couple has two children together.

Clarke and Momoa seemed destined to be great friends. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Clarke stated that the first time they met, Momoa literally ran over and bombarded her with a “rugby tackle to the floor.” She’s also previously spoken about how Momoa did his best to make her feel safe and comfortable while filming their more intimate scenes for Game of Thrones.

In 2019, Momoa opened up about how he felt almost losing Clarke after she experienced two life-threatening brain aneurysms. “I’m very sad because we almost lost her the first time. I love her to bits, and she’s here and she’s going to do great things with it and teach the world.” He added, “I’ve kind of been a part of that whole situation for a very long time, so we’ve had so many scares and trying to find the right way to come out and help. I just think it’s beautiful. She’s so brave in helping the world and trying to raise awareness.” (Clarke founded her own charity called SameYou, which is aimed at advocating for survivors of brain injuries and strokes and raising awareness of brain trauma.)

As if she wasn’t already amazing enough, did you know Emilia Clarke recently co-created a comic book? The first issue of M.O.M.: Mother of Madness came out on July 21st. Read all about it here!
