Michael Ausiello’s best-selling memoir Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies is being adapted into a film by Focus Features starring Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) as Ausiello, and Ben Aldridge (Fleabag) as his partner Kit, according to Deadline.

Atria Books published the memoir in 2017. The book chronicles the challenging and heart-wrenching difficulties Ausiello experienced over the course of eleven months after Kit was diagnosed with terminal cancer up until his death. Ausiello also provides accounts of the complex fourteen-year romance he and Kit had together, writes Deadline.

Spoiler Alert will be directed by Michael Showalter and the script will be penned by Ausiello, David Marshall Grant, and Dan Savage. The film will be produced under two separate “banners.” Showalter and Jordan Mollick will produce the film together under Semi-Formal Productions. The movie is also to be produced by Parsons, Todd Spiewack, and Alison Mo Massey under That’s Wonderful Productions. Ausiello will also executive produce Spoiler Alert.

Deadline reports that production for Spoiler Alert will begin this fall in New York City. Kiska Higgs, the President of Production and Acquisitions at Focus Features, made that announcement Thursday. She claimed she immediately knew Focus Features had to adapt Ausiello’s memoir into a film the moment she finished reading it. She went on to say she “fell in love with Michael and Kit’s classic New York romance” and that she’s excited to see what Parsons and Aldridge will bring to the characters.

Ultimately, Higgs stated, “[with] Showalter’s vision for the story’s heart and humor, we hope not only to do justice to Michael and Kit’s story but also to inspire the audience to love them as much as we do.”
