Production and filming for HBO’s House of the Dragon is going strong, demonstrated by the various casting announcements, news, and images we’ve received over the past few months. Set over one hundred years before the events in Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon focuses on the reign of House Targaryen. It is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, a 700+ page history about the Targaryens beginning with Aegon the Conqueror and ending with the reign of Aegon III Targaryen (for volume one).

According to Winter is Coming, another actor is rumored to be joining the talented cast for House of the Dragon. On August 8th, the U.K. Actors Support Network shared a tweet that stated David Horovitch is appearing in the show. Horovitch is an esteemed actor who’s appeared in Thriller, The New Avengers, and Miss Marple, writes Winter is Coming. Horovitch is also a Shakespearean actor who often posts videos of himself reading Shakespeare’s sonnets on his YouTube channel.

Winter is Coming suggested a few possible characters Horovitch could play in House of the Dragon. One option is Bartimos Celtigar, Lord of Claw Isle. A second character may be Grand Maester Orwyle, who served under Aegon II Targaryen. The third option is Lord Lyman Beesbury, master of coin for Viserys I Targaryen. HBO has not yet confirmed Horovitch’s casting in House of the Dragon.

As mentioned on HBO’s website, Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin are co-creating the series. Condal is serving as a showrunner alongside Miguel Sapchonik (who directed several episodes of Game of Thrones). He’ll also executive produce alongside Martin, Sara Lee Hess, Ron Schmidt, and Vince Gerardis. Clare Kilner is directing with Geeta Patel. Greg Yaitanes is directing and serving as a co-executive producer.

Here’s the (officially) announced cast: Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Emma D’Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Paddy Considine (King Viserys Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys Velaryon or “Sea Snake”), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Eve Best (Princess Rhaenys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Ser Cristen Cole), Sonoya Mizuno (Mysaria), Milly Alcock (Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), and Emily Carey (Young Alicent Hightower).
