Today is the publishing date of the famous children’s book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.
To celebrate, here are four things about the book you might not know:
1. It was first published on August 12th, 1960. That means that Green Eggs and Ham is 61 years old!
2. In 2019, it had sold 8 million copies.
3. Netflix made an animated season of Green Eggs and Ham in 2019. The second season is due to be released around November 2021.
4. The book sometimes ends up on the “Banned Books” list even though there’s no proof it’s been banned. According to a USA Today article, Jesse Walker, the books editor for Reason magazine and a free-speech advocate, takes responsibility for this. Stating that he wrote a “satiric Banned Books Week column that mocked the nation’s prigs by suggesting they try to pull something new off the nation’s school shelves. The article then devolved into [him] decoding the supposed sexual subtexts in Treasure Island and, yes, Green Eggs and Ham.”
