Though it’s been over a year since the Percy Jackson adaptation was announced as in development with Disney+, fans of the series will be happy to hear the show is making great progress.

On Friday, August 30th, Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan met with top executives at Disney, including Disney Entertainment, Disney TV, 20th Century Studios, and Disney+, about the series and how they would like to approach the show going forward.

Afterward, Riordan reported that the execs were “all in” on making the series and getting it right. That’s exactly the kind of positive news all fans want to hear!

“We had a very positive conversation with the top executives at the various branches of the Disney television organization,” said Riordan on a blog post to his website. “This was the first time all of us had been in the same room (well, Zoom room) so we could make sure we were all getting the same information and sharing the same goals. The good news is: the leadership is ‘all in,’ as they put it, about making this show and doing it right. A lot of them have kids who have grown up with Percy Jackson, too, so they get it.”

Indeed, this news is promising. Because the filmmakers who made the Percy Jackson films years ago did seemed to lack a connection and understanding to the books, having showrunners who care about the source material should have a positive impact on upcoming Disney+ show.

“They get that there are millions and millions of you out there who are waiting excitedly to see Percy Jackson come to life in a new way,” Riordan continued. “We felt supported and heard, and I am more confident than ever that this show is moving forward as it needs to. You all have made a difference. You always do. Showing up on social media, sharing your excitement for the show: Disney sees you. They have heard you and they want to do right by you Percy fans. That, for me, is priority one, so I am happy!”

Though the show has yet to be officially green-lit by Disney+, the production and development teams are currently working hard to make the show as satisfactory as it needs to be. Recently, Riordan joined the writers’ room for the show as they outlined the first season, and Riordan also announced that the show is close to finding a director.

Additionally, Riordan mentioned the show has started talking about set production, film settings, and recently a script outline for the second season.
