The Princess Bride is an iconic film for a myriad of reasons. Whether you love the film for its romance between Princess Buttercup and Westley or its iconic lines during the sword-fighting scenes, the film based on William Goldman’s 1973 novel of the same name has something for everyone. The 1987 film starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, and Mandy Patinkin has become a cult classic that shares whimsical fantasy elements with similar films like Labyrinth and The Neverending Story.

Although the film was made over thirty years ago, fans still care for the actors who portrayed such beloved characters. Wright has had such a burgeoning acting career; Elwes has appeared in the Netflix show Stranger Things (much to fans’ delight); and most recently, Mandy Patinkin, who played fencing master Inigo Montoya, bonded with a fan over her emotional connection to one of his most famous lines in the film. Grab your tissues and check out the TikTok video from Patinkin’s Twitter below.

A young woman named Amanda reached out to Patinkin over TikTok to inquire if he used his own father’s passing to inspire the line, “I want my father back, you son of a bitch.” Recently, Amanda had lost her own father and seeing as the movie was one of her father’s favorites, she connected with the line now more than ever. Through the power of social media, the question made its way to Patikin to answer the question himself. His response above is so touching that even I cried when watching the video in preparation for this article. When social media is used for good, its power can be incredible to watch.
