Emilia Clarke made her Star Wars debut in the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. She played Qi’ra, the childhood friend/lover of Han Solo and the Leader of the Crimson Dawn. According to Winter is Coming, IGN recently revealed that Qi’ra will soon star in her own comic book series titled Star Wars: Crimson Reign.
Crimson Reign will continue the story of another comic, War of the Bounty Hunters. Creator Charles Soule stated, “I have a bigger story I’m going to tell with Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn, and it’s all connected to the reasons she kicked things off in War of the Bounty Hunters in the first place. You’ll learn more about that in the closing pages of War of the Bounty Hunters #5, out in October, and I think fans have no idea how exciting and new this story will feel.”
Crimson Reign is set between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. IGN reports that Soule has always “wanted to do new things” within this period, “using new characters from all eras of the galaxy far, far away.” Soule adds that Crimson Reign serves as a “great example” of how he enjoys writing Star Wars stories. “Everything and everyone is fair game, and I think people are really going to enjoy it. Await the Reign.”
IGN states Star Wars: Crimson Reign will hit shelves in November of this year. Steve Cummings is the artist for the comic and will design one Variant cover for the comic’s first issue. Leinil Francis Yu is the artist for the comic’s main cover. Ario Anindito will also design a Variant cover.
Clarke is perhaps best recognized for playing Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones. Since the 2019 series finale, Clarke has also appeared in the movie Last Christmas with Henry Golding and Emma Thompson. She will star in Marvel’s upcoming series Secret Invasion with Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelssohn, and Olivia Colman. Her role is still unknown at this time, but the series is set to premiere in 2022.
