Actor and comedian Stephen Fry added author to his list of talents in 1991 when he published his first book, The Liar. Fry (known to many as the narrator of the Harry Potter audiobook series) has been trying to get a film adaption of his book for over a decade. This year, his dreams will finally come to fruition.
The book is a semi-autobiographical story told from the perspective of Adrian Healey, a Cambridge University student who finds himself in the midst of a mystery with his mentor, Professor Donald Trefussis. When Trefussis enlists him on an espionage mission, Adrian begins to get caught up in all of the lies he is telling. What was once something fun is turning dangerous, and the question remains: will Adrian be able to find his way out?
The movie is said to be an “LGBTQ+ coming-of-age spy caper,” starring Ender’s Game‘s Asa Butterfield and Jurassic Park legend Jeff Goldblum. Newcomer Tony Hagger will write the script and direct with seasoned producer, Guy de Beaujeu. While the film is set to begin production next month, we will have to wait until 2022 to The Liar in theaters.
