Early yesterday morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association revealed the nominations for the 2022 Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globe Awards, or commonly referred to as the Golden Globes, is an annual celebration of the prior year’s best in television and film. The 2022 nominations list was revealed yesterday by rapper Snoop Dogg and HFPA president Helen Hoehne.
The nominees are especially exciting with so many audience favorites with multiple nominations. Additionally, many book adaptations made the list. The Power of the Dog directed by Jane Campion is based on the 1967 Western novel of the same name by Thomas Savage. Campion’s adaptation leads the Golden Globe Awards with seven nominations. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Additionally, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel, Dune, scored three nominations. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin. Many more book-to-film adaptations garnered Golden Globe nominations: Compartment no. 6, Drive My Car, The Morning Show, Dopesick, Maid.
The 79th Golden Globe Awards is scheduled for January 9, 2022 amidst scandal and racial issues. Due to long persisting issues within HFPA and the lack of racial inclusion, specifically an exclusion of Black members, NBC has officially refused to broadcast the live awards ceremony next year.
