The season of the White Wolf is among us and we’re hungry for the Hunt.

Get ready fellow Witchers for the most amazing winter season of the year as season two of Netfilx’s The Witcher hits your screens on December 17th, 2021!

It’s been awhile since Season 1 arrived back in 2019 and production has been slow for season 2 with Covid still raging and regulations have been put through. Yet, never fear, the cast and crew have put on their best to bring us this masterpiece from the pages of Andrezj Sapkowski’s Witcher series

As expected, movie Superman Henry Cavill returns as the eponymous monster-hunting Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, continuing his adventures across the vast world of the Continent. With the complex multiple timelines of the first season now aligned, The Witcher season 2 unites Geralt with orphaned princess Ciri (Freya Allan) on their way to the School of the Wolf’s headquarters, Kaer Morhen, and you can guarantee it won’t be too long before they cross paths with the show’s third viewpoint character, the enchantress known as Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra).

With more Witchers, more magic, more double-crossing, and more political intrigue on the menu, this season is set to be just as essential as the first.

Joining the cast is our favorite ax wielding Wildling, Kristofer Hivju as the Beast Nivellen from Sapkowski’s The Last Wish and Kim Bodania as Vesemir, Geralt’s Witcher mentor. If you have yet to watch Netflix’s The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, watch it. Released on August 23rd, 2021, Nightmare of the Wolf gives Vesimir’s backstory from his hey-days as a young Witcher before the events in Season 1.

The Witcher Season 2 episode Titles have bee Revealed:

  • A Grain of Truth
  • Kaer Morhen
  • What is Lost
  • Redanian Intelligence
  • Turn Your Back
  • Dear Friend
  • Voleth Meir
  • TBC

The final episode title is so secret, we’ll have to wait and see when December 17th hits.

The episode titles offer up a few clues about The Witcher season 2. ‘A Grain of Truth’ takes its name from a short story in Andrzej Sapkowki’s book The Last Wish, which features Nivellen, the character played by Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju in The Witcher season 2. ‘Kaer Morhen’ is the name of a fortress where Witchers are trained. ‘Redanian Intelligence’ refers to Redania, a country on the Continent that possesses an exceptional spy network– maybe we’ll even meet a certain Redanian spy. ‘Dear Friend’ presumably refers to a letter Geralt wrote to Yennefer in the Witcher books. And ‘Voleth Meir’ refers to a new character played by Ania Marson. Voleth Meir is reportedly elven for ‘Deathless Mother’, and it seems the character has an important role to play in Ciri’s arc.

The Story So Far

Picking up after the events of Season 1, believing that Yennefer has lost her life at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt has taken Princess Cirilla to his home, the Witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen, where in the hopes to protect her, trains her in the ways of the Witcher. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

It’s a season about Geralt becoming a father figure to Ciri, according to showrunner Lauren S Hissrich, so expect that relationship to drive season 2. Geralt – a man who rarely uses words when a grunt will do – might even become a bit more talkative in his new paternal role.

Where Season 1 focused on multiple timelines, telling each character’s individual story in different episodes, Season 2 sees these timelines now converged and will be told simultaneously. Indeed, this season will mark the first time Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra have actually acted together, which should make things easier to follow. According to showrunner Lauren S Hissrich, “the stories will be told in a much more linear fashion. They won’t all be one story. It’s not like all three are together and happy all the time. But, I do want to employ some different ways to look at time series-wide.”

Some other changes are coming next year, too. The wrinkly Nilfgaardian armor, which some fans on the internet didn’t like, will be upgraded in The Witcher season 2. Hissrich told Flickering Myth’s Writer Experience podcast that, “the Nilfgaard armor will be totally different. You have that opportunity [in season 2] to go back and course correct if you want to.”

The Witcher Season 3 has already been greenlit plus more

Greenlit back in September 2021, The Witcher will be back for a third season and possibly plans to stick around for a full seven seasons on Netflix.  There’s enough material in the books, and even the video games (though they are non cannon) to carry on Geralt and friends for more monster slaying adventures around the Continent. There’s also a prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origins, on the table.
