Superhero crossovers are generally pretty epic and exciting, especially when they happen between characters who haven’t appeared together before. Recently, actor Tom Hardy spoke to Esquire, and during the interview, he admitted he hopes Marvel Studios and Sony will make a crossover between his character Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the future.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy is “actively” trying to make his idea of a Venom and Spider-Man crossover a reality. He told Esquire, “I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity. I wouldn’t be doing the job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or be excited by that.”
Hardy recognizes the obstacles that could impact the crossover film, specifically the “rights deals around the characters.” However, he doesn’t believe any of these issues will prevent the film from being made, as long as both Sony and Marvel are interested. He stated, “Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.” He adds, “Should both sides be willing and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be.”
For now, Hardy will continue “eagerly” pushing and advocating for the crossover film. “I hope and strongly, with both hands, push, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business.”
Tom Hardy’s latest film Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a sequel to the 2018 film Venom. Hardy plays Eddie Brock (aka Venom) in the movies, starring alongside Woody Harrelson and Michelle Williams. He’s also receiving a writing credit for the sequel, writes The Hollywood Reporter. During the Esquire interview, Hardy teased a potential third Venom film, saying the studio was very satisfied with the Venom sequel.
“I’m thinking about the third movie as well, because I think you need to write that at the same time…A third won’t be greenlit until the second is successful, but the studio [was] really, really pleased with number two,” Hardy stated.
