Daniel Radcliffe is undoubtedly most famous for portraying Harry Potter in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy book series. He will forever remain “the perfect Harry” in the eyes of Potter fans. However, in a recent discussion during Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Radcliffe revealed he wouldn’t necessarily reprieve his role as the series’ main character.
According to PopCulture, Radcliffe and his co-stars for the show Miracle Workers appeared on Horowitz’s Game Night. At one point, the stars all stated which Harry Potter character they’d like to play in a future reboot if given the opportunity. Karan Soni stated she’d play Hermione Granger as that’s the character she “related to the most.” Geraldine Viswanathan chose Hagrid because of their shared love for animals. For Radcliffe, however, he opted not to choose an older version of Harry Potter.
Instead, Radcliffe stated he’d like to play either Sirius Black or Remus Lupin. He said, “Those were always the two characters that I was like ‘They’re great.’ And also like, I’m obviously biased by my experience of filming those scenes, with those people, and they’re like some of my favorite memories.” In the original films, Gary Oldman played Sirius Black, while Remus Lupin was played by David Thewlis.
The PopCulture article mentions that there are no Harry Potter-related prequels or sequels planned as of now, aside from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films. Radcliffe also told Entertainment Tonight he isn’t sure whether the cast of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will meet up for a reunion this year, as 2021 marks the film’s twentieth anniversary.
In the article, Radcliffe stated, “I’m in the Dominican Republic at the moment filming, and then I’m going to be busy, kind of working on bits and pieces until the end of the year…So yeah, I don’t know. I’m sure there will be some sort of celebration, but I don’t know if we will be getting together or anything. I’m sorry if that’s a bit of a disappointment to anyone.”
