The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Netflix movie trilogy is based on the novel series of the same name by Jenny Han. Unlike some other adaptations, The To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Netflix movie trilogy is pretty accurate to the books, while also incorporating elements that make the series exciting for exclusive movie watchers. The movie trilogy stars Lana Condor as Lara Jean Song Covey, Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky, Janel Parrish as Margot Song Covey, and, of course, Anna Cathcart as Kitty.

Both the novel and the movie series are worth the read and watch. The series is racially diverse – the Coveys are half-Korean – as well as being LGBTQ+ supportive – Lucas, one of Lara Jean’s former crushes as well as one of her closest friends, is gay. The writing is fun, light and easy; the characters are likable and relatable; and the shenanigans the characters get up to are understandable.

Kitty Song Covey is the catalyst that kick-starts events of the entire series, in both the book and movie series. She is the one who sends out all of Lara Jean’s love letters to all five boys. In the third movie, Kitty gains her first love interest, a Korean boy called Dae, portrayed by Ho-Young Jeon. That being said, it’s possible that Dae might get recast for XO, Kitty. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You recasted John Ambrose McClaren with African-American Jordan Fisher, replacing Jordan Burtchett, for reasons unknown. Although it is possible that Netflix wanted a more racially diverse cast, and/or they opted for Jordan Fisher since he is more famous and well-known.

At any rate, XO, Kitty promises to be a great series, especially in light of the fame and recognition of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Kissing Booth. Anna Cathcart has starred in Descendants 2 and 3 on Disney+, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix, Zoe Valentine on YouTube, and more! Added bonus, I met her last year (via Zoom) and she is an amazingly sweet and kind person!

If you enjoyed To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, you should most definitely check out XO, Kitty! Book recommendations, on the other hand, would include teen fiction books that start with fake relationships – The Upside of Falling by Alex Light – a novel that was originally published on Wattpad. Writing communities are a major bonus to the world, but that’s a discussion for another time! Here’s to hoping that Jenny Han might actually write XO, Kitty as a novel spin-off in addition to us getting the Netflix series!
