When it comes to anything romance related, I’m either one of two things: a complete cynic or a hopeless romantic. There are times when I’m like “There’s no way they fell in love that fast” and others when I’m all “Oh my god it was love at first sight! *swoon*.” I guess it just depends on what kind of mood I’m in that determines what level of cynical I am. But it is possible for me to become less of a cynic thanks to quotes like these that are enough to warm my cold, dead heart and make me proclaim true love is real! They are also the reason I now have impossibly high standards. It’s a double-edged sword, I guess.
“I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter. How broken we were, we’d fight our way out together – knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting.” – Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom
“’And now I’m looking at you,’ he said, ‘and you’re asking me if I still want you, as if I could stop loving you. As if I would want to give up the thing that makes me stronger than anything else ever has. I never dared give much of myself to anyone before – bits of myself to the Lightwoods, to Isabelle and Alec, but it took years to do it – but, Clary, since the first time I saw you, I have belonged to you completely. I still do. If you want me.’” – Cassandra Clare, City of Glass
“We’re staying together. You’re not getting away from me. Never again.” – Rick Riordan, Mark of Athena
“When the day shall come that we do part, if my last words are not ‘I love you’ – ye’ll ken it was because I didna have time.” – Diana Gabaldon, The Fiery Cross
“Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only every yours to break.” – Kiera Cass, The One
“’Nothing before you counts,’ he said. ‘And I can’t even imagine an after.’” – Rainbow Rowell, Eleanor & Park
“I’m in love with you, and I’m not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.” – John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
“I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.” – Veronica Roth, Allegiant
“’You speak of sacrifice, but it is not my sacrifice I offer. It is yours I ask of you,’ he went on. ‘I can offer you my life, but it is a short life; I can offer you my heart, though I have no idea how many more beats it shall sustain. But I love you enough to hope that you will not care that I am being selfish in trying to make the rest of my life – whatever its length – happy, by spending it with you. I want to be married to you, Tessa. I want it more than I have ever wanted anything else in my life.’” – Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Prince
“What I need to survive is not Gale’s fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.” – Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay
“I was his and he was mine, and we were the beginning and middle and end. We were a song that had been sung from the very first ember of light in the world.” – Sarah J Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury
“’After all this time?’ ‘Always,’ said Snape.” – J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
“I would have written you, myself, if I could put down in words everything I want to say to you. A sea of ink would not be enough.” – Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
“She look at me, like she was drinking in the fact that I was still here. And I realized I was doing the same thing. The world was collapsing, and the only think that really mattered to me was that she was alive.” – Rick Riordan, The Last Olympian
“It has always been forever, for me, Sassenach.” – Diana Gabaldon, Voyager
