Usually, the “International (Something Random) Day” you see taking space on your Facebook trending bar seems like a joke, or something that really has no reason to be celebrated as a holiday. Talk Like a Pirate Day? Rubber Ducky Day? It wouldn’t be surprising if every day of the year had some arbitrary thing dedicated to it. Sometimes, though, these days are meant to support something special and important. That’s especially the case today, as we celebrate International Literacy Day— an opportunity to promote the power of reading.
