Say what you will about book adaptations—yes, the book is better about 99% of the time—however, no one can deny the beauty, the thrill, and the wonder of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The beginning of this month marked the release date for the final installment of the trilogy, Return of the King, today is the anniversary of The Twin Towers‘ release date, and on top of that, the 19th is the anniversary of the one that started it all, The Fellowship of the Ring. In honor of these terrific films that, as long as they were, did a fantastic job at capturing the original and beloved books by J. R. Tolkien here are Lord of the Rings quotes that made us love the movies.
And so it begins…

With a bit of a bumpy start…

You’re not you when you’re hungry, grab some second breakfast
A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.– Gandalf the Grey, The Fellowship of the Ring

[closing Frodo’s hand around the Ring] I would have gone with you to the end, into the very fires of Mordor.-Aragorn, The Fellowship of the Ring

–The Two Towers
A bit of a long quote, but one of the most inspiring speeches in storytelling. All the love for Sam!

Pippin: I didn’t think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path. One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass… then you see it!
Pippin: What? Gandalf? See what?
Gandalf: White shores… and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn’t so bad.
Gandalf: No. No, it isn’t.
-Return of the King
Gimli: I never thought I’d die fighting side-by-side with an elf.
Legolas: What about side-by-side with a friend?
Gimli: Aye, I could do that.
-Return of the King
Frodo: It’s gone! It’s done!
Sam: Yes, Mr. Frodo. It’s over now.
Frodo: I can see the Shire. The Brandywine River. Bag End. Gandalf’s fireworks, the lights, the party tree.
Sam: Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If ever I was to marry someone… it would have been her. It would have been her!
Frodo: I’m glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee. Here, at the end of all things
-Return of the King

Bilbo: I think I’m quite ready for another adventure!
