There’s nothing quite like the smell of a fresh, new book or the feel of a watermarked cover on an equally lovable used one. Whether new or old, all books are beautiful in their own, and there’s nothing better than seeing them lined up and ready for devouring in your favorite bookstore. At the risk of sounding cheesy, every bookworm can agree there’s something magical about strolling through aisles of books. You can pick up a book or two (or twenty), find a cozy corner to hide out in, and tuck into the folds of a whole new world. Given …
Yesterday, Obama announced his nomination for the next Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden. If elected, Hayden would replace tenured librarian James H. Billington, who’s been keeping his eyes on the books for the past 28 years. Currently, Hayden is CEO of the Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore, where the city has seen violent turmoil and civil unrest intensify over the past year. Even in the midst of the city’s social-political tug-of-war, Hayden has remained committed to keeping the Library open—a move that has caught the admiring eye of the Obama Administration. It’s like a death in the family – if your family includes history’s greatest playwrights and an actor’s most sacred texts. It’s the era of the series and it all feels so novel to now. But, taking a second look at popular titles across time, many of our favorite …
There’s an appeal to the world of Harry Potter beyond just wizards and wand waving. Aside from characters that are prototype best friends and quests that put all real life adventures to shame, J.K Rowling manages to fill the pages with fantasy beyond our mind’s wildest creations. In a world where you can stalk classmates on the Marauder’s Map, engage with much livelier photographs, and munch on chocolate frogs, it’s no wonder some of our Muggle inventors seek to turn these fictional creations into reality. Now, in addition to being able to purchase Bertie Botts’ Every Flavor Beans (mmm ear-wax), you can …
