The ‘X-Men’ franchise can’t seem to catch a break huh? Dark Phoenix was a tragedy but this is a real head scratcher. The New Mutants was delayed three times and we can give all our thanks to Ms. Rona for the most recent one. It was supposed to be in theaters last month, but with movie theaters closing worldwide, no one was going to be able to see it.
The movie was in limbo, yet as an X-Men fan, I can attest to how confused and agitated we all were. Thankfully, we now finally have a release date that will hopefully be the final one. The New Mutants will be released on August 28, 2020 securing a spot as a summer blockbuster.

The New Mutants has so much going for it. It will be focused on the really scary (and cool) powers that exist in the ‘X-Men’ universe. We got a glimpse of it with Rogue – how she can literally suck the life out of someone with a single touch. It gives the movie a horror element which we’ve never seen before in ‘X-Men’ property. The closest we’ve gotten to the real weird side of mutant abilities was in the FX television show Legion.

We’ve got an an amazing cast to portray these young mutants. Maisie Williams plays Rahne Sinclair, A.K.A, Wolfsbane, the next teen Scottish wolf.
Anya Joy-Taylor is Illyana Rasputin AKA Magik. Who is not only Colossus’ (another X-Men) sister but she has sorcerer-like powers and can literally manifest a sword from her own soul. I needed to see that on screen yesterday.
Charlie Heaton is Sam Gunthrie, AKA Cannonball. He can propel himself into the air while also being invulnerable.
Blu Hunt is Danielle Moonstar AKA Mirage. A Native American mutant who creates illusions based on someone’s fears and wants. How sick is that?
Finally, we have Henry Zaga playing Roberto Da Costa AKA Sunspot, a Brazilian mutant who can manipulate solar energy. You know, like from the sun?!

We’ve also got some cool visuals to look forward to if we are to go by what the trailers showed us. I just want to see it man, is that too much to ask? The first trailer came out in 2017, and then for years we were like, Uh, New Mutants, is anyone there? First, it was development heck, then there were re-shoots, then Disney bought Fox, then a global pandemic. I really hope this movie was worth all of that, I truly do, I’m praying as we speak!
