In honor of the Women’s March over the weekend, Atria Books found a way to make a statement for the cause by giving away free books. According to their website, “Atria is known for particular expertise in the areas of women’s fiction, mystery/thriller, African-American fiction, memoir, popular culture, health and diet, cooking, popular science, psychology, self-help, and spirituality.” Atria Books is a part of Atria Publishing Group, which a division of Simon & Schuster – the publisher that is controversially publishing Milo Yiannopoulos’ book.
However, the giveaway launched by Atria Books sponsored books that empower women. The ebooks were available for download and each book had 5,000 copies available (only one per customer). On Friday, the website was down due to high demand and as of now, the offer is no longer available.
The books that were included were:
- The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae
- Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman
- The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
- The Girl Who Escaped ISIS by Farida Khalaf
- Things I Should Have Told My Daughter by Pearl Cleage
- Niña Alemana, the Spanish-language edition of The German Girl, by Armando Lucas Correa
- Redefining Realness by Janet Mock
All downloads were used and 35,000 ebooks were given away! Amazing!
