‘Black Panthers’ Ryan Coogler Adapting Another Amazing Comic

Creed director Ryan Coogler made the big leap to comic book movies with his Oscar-nominated adaptation of Marvel’s Black Panther. Deadline reported yesterday that production company Legendary Studios has made a deal with Coogler to produce the film adaptation of Image Comics’ Bitter Root. Set in the 1920’s Harlem Renaissance, it follows the Sangerye family who used to moonlight as monster hunters, saving New York from various supernatural threats. However, years of in-fighting has caused the family to break up over the years. But when an invasion of monsters happens, the remaining Sangerye family members must put aside their differences in order to save the city once again.

As of right now, there have been six issues of Bitter Root released, five main issues and a One-Shot. The last main issue was released in March, while the one shoe came out last July.

 

There is no word yet on who will be writing or directing this adaptation.
