It was a great year for book adaptations, and last night’s Golden Globe Awards solidified that. The Golden Globes separates its top awards, Best Picture and Actress/Actor, into two categories: Drama, and Comedy or Musical. However, that didn’t stop both Best Picture spots from being swept by book adaptations. The Revenant, based on the novel by Michael Punke, won Best Picture, Drama; and, The Martian, based on the novel by Andy Weir, won Best Picture, Comedy or Musical.
Actors and Actresses in book adaptations also prevailed. Brie Larson won Best Actress, Drama, for Room (based on the novel by Emma Donoghue); Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor, Drama, for The Revenant; and, Matt Damon won Best Actor, Musical or Comedy, for The Martian.
