The Right Stuff is a story about determined astronauts which looks more at the concept of space race more than actual space exploration. The Soviet Union’s early space efforts are mentioned only as background, as the story focuses almost entirely on the early portion of the U.S. space program. The show will also portray the overnight celebrity that came with the project.

Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will executive produce, along with Mark Lafferty, who will serve as show runner. Will Staples is also an executive producer. The Right Stuff will film in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

The Right Stuff is looking at a 2020 global launch date, and it will be on National Geographic.
