National Geographic has recast one of the three leads in its upcoming series The Right Stuff, based on Tom Wolfe’s 1979 novel. According to Deadline, Game of Thrones star Joe Dempsie, who was previously playing the role of Lt. Gordon Cooper had to leave his role due to visa complications. Colin O’Donoghue, famous for his role in Once Upon A Time, will replace Dempsie as Lt. Gordon Cooper. He will star alongside Patrick J. Adams, known for his role in Suits, and Jake McDorman, known for his role in Limitless.

The Right Stuff is a story about determined astronauts which looks more at the concept of space race more than actual space exploration. The Soviet Union’s early space efforts are mentioned only as background, as the story focuses almost entirely on the early portion of the U.S. space program. The show will also portray the overnight celebrity that came with the project.
Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will executive produce, along with Mark Lafferty, who will serve as show runner. Will Staples is also an executive producer. The Right Stuff will film in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
The Right Stuff is looking at a 2020 global launch date, and it will be on National Geographic.
