Eddie Redmayne, star of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie franchise, wrote a note to JK Rowling in response to the backlash the author has been receiving over the transphobic tweets she wrote back in June. These tweets were in response to an article that Rowling responded to that referred to transgender woman as “people who menstruate.” That didn’t sit right with Rowling and she expressed her feelings on Twitter, and the internet, in return, expressed their feelings as well.

Redmayne stars as Newt Schamander in the Fantastic Beasts films and has portrayed transgender roles in the past. He portrayed Lili Elbe, a Danish painter, in the film The Danish Girl, and he was nominated for an Oscar back in 2016 for his performance. However, despite how much he is against Rowling’s comments, and how much he stands with the trans community, he still finds the treatment of Rowling to be disgusting.
He also finds the treatment of the trans community disgusting. So he see errors on both sides, and like the other stars of Rowling’s franchise, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson don’t agree with her words either. Other stars of the films stand in solidarity with the LBGTQ community, which is great. They have expressed their feelings about Rowlings tweets and, as much as they respect her, they completely disagree with her comments.

Many of Rowling’s fans have expressed their disappointment and have removed themselves from the fandom. Others have decided to separate the art from the artist and, even though that’s hard, the Wizarding world is one in which it’s hard to walk away from. The fans have made it what it is today.
