Liu Cixin’s Hugo Award winning novel The Three-Body Problem and its subsequent follow up have officially been ordered as a drama adaptation by Netflix.
The Netflix Original series will cover all three of Cixin’s books, beginning with The Three-Body Problem, and including The Dark Forest, and Death’s End. The series is set against China’s Cultural Revolution, during which a secret military project team sends signals into outer space in an attempt to establish contact with alien life and span through time.
The adaptation will be written and produced by Game of Thrones series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Alexander Woo will also participate, and Rian Johnson, Brad Pitt, Rosamund Pike, and GOT’s Bernadette Caulfield are also executive producers.
In 2018 Amazon attempted to secure the rights to the series with a reported $1 billion (yes, billion) deal, though the idea that Netflix paid that much was described as “overblown” by a source. Regardless, no matter how much Netflix paid to secure the series, it’s likely to be epic!
