Keeping the awards train rolling, the National Book Awards announced its longlist for fiction. 10 fanastic books have made it this far, and avid readers will definitely recognize several of them. Know them or not, all are worth a look.
Notably, one of the nominated books has also been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Hanya Yanagihara‘s A Little Life, which has been especially popular among readers and critics alike, has graced both lists. Four of the nominees are short story collections, and many of the books focus on family drama.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
Many of these authors are no strangers to awards in the past. Adam Johnson won the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for his novel The Orphan Master’s Son. The prolific Edith Pearlman has won many awards, including the 2011 National Book Critic’s Circle Award and the Edward Lewis Wallant Award. Judges for this year’s awards include authors Daniel Alarcon, Jeffery Renard Allen, Laura Lippman, and David L. Ulin.
The shortlist will be revealed on October 14.
