Healthy Holly’s Author Sentenced

Catherine Pugh, the ex-mayor of Baltimore and author of Healthy Holly, has been issued a three year prison sentence. The controversy started with her book series, Healthy Holly, which were children’s books that focused on exercising and healthy eating. It came out that her book sales were disguised as kickback.

The books had been sold to corporate buyers who wanted contracts, schools and health providers. But some people wouldn’t even get their books, and then those books were sold for a second time. This scheme was said to have been happening for seven years. The money the books made was then used for her campaign and for the purchase of a new home. Along with her sentence she was ordered to pay 1 million dollars in restitution.
