No my friends this isn’t the spirit world, The Legend of Korra is finally coming to Netflix (August 14th to be exact)! Now this year has felt like a long cactus juice trip, but without a doubt one of the highlights has been the resurgence and attention Avatar: The Last Airbender (and its fans!) have been getting. Oh and of course all this amazing content on Netflix, duh. Like myself and many fans hoped, the popularity Avatar gained would’ve persuaded Netflix to add the iconic show’s sequel as well; and we were right. Korra and all her awesomeness is heading our way, so let’s dive in what we know so far. Zhu Li do the thing!
Thousands of new (and old) Avatar fans who happily binged Aang and his friends’ adventures during quarantine, were all hungry for more. So the streaming giant announcing Korra’s arrival to the platform on August 14th is music to our ears. For those who don’t know, The Legend of Korra takes place years after Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Avatar cycle continues and the Avatar is reborn, this time she’s a girl from the Water Tribe. Voiced by Janet Varney, we have an Avatar who’s not Aang (and that’s okay people). She’s brash, confident, headstrong and stubborn, but she’s full of heart. Korra excels at the elements but struggles with the spirituality of air. Thankfully, she has Aang’s airbending son Tenzin (J.K. Simmons) to teach her. Unlike the coming-of-age story of Avatar, Korra deals with more mature themes such as depression, PTSD, and sexual orientation.
