Reopening Thursday, June 10 in a new location, The Drama Book Shop has been a staple of the New York theatre scene since 1917. According to Theater Mania, the 104-year-old independent bookstore, now owned by Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Jeffrey Seller, and James L. Nederlander, will be reopening its doors on West 39th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
Founded by the Drama League, the Book Shop became an independent book store in 1923 and, over time, became the staple source for over 8,000 theatrical works. In 2011, the shop received a Tony Award Honor for Excellence in the Theatre for its profound achievements in the theatre.
The new venue which reminds patrons of twentieth-century European cafes and reading rooms was designed by Hamilton‘s scenic designer David Korins and his team. It also has a full-service cafe inside.
The Book Shop has decided to operate at a limited capacity with the option to use a reservation system for entry at a specific time for the health and safety of customers. Reservations are not required, but recommended.
