Love, Victor tells the story of young teen Victor, who is new to Creek-Wood High. Just like Simon, Victor is on his own journey of self-discovery. He’s dealing with being in a new town, being the new kid in school, all on top of problems at home. It’s a lot to adjust to, and on top of that, he is coming to terms with his sexual orientation. It’s very similar to Simon’s story minus a few differences, and both are great stories to be told.

The show was originally supposed to stream on Disney Plus, but in February it moved to Hulu since it’s the better platform for the series. Disney believed the show to be too risky, considering the content with underage drinking and unfortunately, the romance between Victor and his same-sex love interest. I thought that considering one of Disney Channel’s original series, Andi Mack, had a gay character that Disney was becoming more progressive, though I can understand not wanting to promote underage drinking to children. Regardless of the streaming service, it’s just amazing that it’s streaming somewhere, and that a book adapted into a movie is now being adapted into a series. I know author Becky Albertalli is excited about the accomplishment, and according to Albertalli, she is very proud of everyone that worked hard to make this a reality.
