Malala Yousafzai is not your average twenty-year-old. When she’s not busy studying at Oxford University, she is promoting girls’ right to a quality education around the world. When she was seventeen, she became the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, and she is already a best-selling author. Now, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has just announced Yousafzai’s next book We Are Displaced, which will be published on September 4th of this year.

Her first book I Am Malala was released in 2013 and has sold around two million copies since then. It is a memoir of her experience fighting for education rights, being shot in the head by the Taliban, and ultimately surviving and continuing her activism. She also released a picture book for children last October entitled Malala’s Magic Pencil, which tells her story to a younger audience. In the book, she wishes for a magic pencil that can help her make the world better only to realize that she has the power to do this even without magic.
Her new book is about the refugee experience. According to The Bookseller, she wants young readers to understand what it is like “to lose your home, your community, and the only world you’ve ever known.” The book draws on her own experiences as well as those of other girls she has met while visiting refugee camps. Her goal is to help readers understand the refugee crisis and inspire compassion for these people who have been displaced by conflict. She explains:
