Netflix has announced The Witcher: Blood Origins, a six-part, limited series that will be set 1200 years before the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, and will chronicle the origins of the very first Witcher, as well as the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres” where the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one.
Though the cast and the date of release has yet to be disclosed, the series is slated to shoot in the United Kingdom. We also know that Andrzej Sapkowski himself, author of the original book series of the same name that the Netflix show is based on, is going to serve as a creative consultant on the series.

Declan de Barra will act as show runner of the upcoming series, and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich along with a number of others from Polish film company Platige Films will act as executive producers.
While I’m personally not a fan of Netflix’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher series (which I’ve written an article on explaining why earlier in the year), I will still be watching the prequel series once it comes out. The conjunction of the spheres has yet to be directly depicted, having only been mentioned in passing in the books and video games, so I’m pretty excited to see how the events transpired. Like most fantasy, the appeal of The Witcher franchise is not really the characters but rather the world itself, which is why I’ll happily be giving Netflix another chance with bringing Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy realm of evil beasts to life.
