The nominations for the 2019 Tony Awards were just announced this morning. Several prominent productions swept the major categories, but one snub has left many people shocked.
Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill A Mockingbird got nine nominations this morning, which include Best Lead Actor in a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Play, Best Featured Actress in a Play and Best Original Score. While those nominations are good, many were surprised that it was left out of the Best Play category.
Considering the large amount of critical acclaim and box office success that Aaron Sorkin’s version of Harper Lee’s has, the snub is very odd. Many took to Twitter to express their displeasure, or in some cases their enjoyment, at the snub:
