Elizabeth Bennet fans can rejoice – Jane Austen’s 1813 classic romance novel, “Pride and Prejudice” is getting yet another adaptation!
The feisty feminist who we all love will be making a reappearance on the screen as producers of the BBC time-period “Poldark” are developing a television adaptation for ITV.
Though the novel has seen six television adaptations, all developed by BBC, and the Academy Award-nominated feature film featuring Keira Knightley, this interpretation seeks new ground.
If the film adaptation “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” wasn’t avant-garde enough for you, you’re in luck. This new adaptation will flush out the “darker tones” of the story, according to producers Mammoth Screen.

In an interview with Radio Times magazine, playwright Nina Raine, who signed on to write the script, said, “Pride and Prejudice is actually a very adult book, much less bonnet-y than people assume. I hope I do justice to Austen’s dark intelligence – sparkling, yes, but sparkling like granite.”
Though the romanticized elements of the book and the popular adaptations moved us, this darker interpretation may prove to offer a new dimension to Austen’s timeless work of art.
We can’t wait to see how it holds up!
