Quentin Tarantino. Director. Screenwriter. Novelist? Tarantino recently signed a two-book deal with Harper, a subsidiary of HarperCollins. The first book will be a novelization of Tarantino’s most recent movie, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. The other book will be a work of nonfiction titled Cinema Speculation, which will take an in-depth look into what the publisher states as being ‘A deep dive into the movies of the 1970s that have been a large inspiration for Tarantino throughout his career.”
The novelization of Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood will follow the past and present lives of the two protagonists, television actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth, and include well-known actors from the 1970s that started in television such as Burt Reynolds, Clint Eastwood, and Pete Duel. Tarantino has spoken of his love for movie novelizations, stating the following:
Movie novelizations were the first adult books I grew up reading, and to this day I have a tremendous amount of affection for the genre. So as a movie-novelization aficionado, I’m proud to announce Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, my contribution to this often marginalized, yet beloved sub-genre in literature. I’m also thrilled to further explore my characters and their world in a literary endeavor that can (hopefully) sit alongside its cinematic counterpart.
