The world was thrilled when HBO Max became a reality and they blessed us with all 8 of the Harry Potter Films. Unfortunately, every good thing must come to an end, and next month all of the movies will be removed from the streaming service.

JK Rowling has been at the center of controversy due to a series of tweets last month. The stars of the films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, spoke out in response. However, Warner Media claims the reason the films are leaving has nothing to do with Rowling, but according to Indiewire, the films are on the way out due to licensing windows. This is quite upsetting, since this is the first time the films were available to stream on a platform and now they will be gone before many had the chance to binge. One of the silver linings of this pandemic is now being taken away from us. Fingers crossed Hamilton won’t be next to leave on Disney Plus. Now that would just be cruel.

However, with Potter leaving, a lot of new movies will be added to the HBO Max roster; some of the Batman films, both seasons of DC universe Harley Quinn, Elf, and much more. So, at least we’re losing and gaining at the same time. It’s still bittersweet for us Potter fans. The DVD quality of the movies just don’t hold up anymore. These movies need to be streamed. Maybe another streaming service will pick it up or they might come back, but when all else fails just pop in the DVDs.

Be sure to stream all the films before they’re gone for good on August 25.
