Audio Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a pleasant tingling sensation that can be derived from a number of aural triggers such as tapping and whispering and there is a huge YouTube community based around it. People watch and listen to the videos to quell anxiety, chill out, or to go to sleep.

GentleWhispering, the most popular ASMR channel on YouTube, has a following of over one million devoted viewers, but there are thousands of other channels posting videos featuring a wide range of triggers. In order to stand out from the sea of other ASMRtists, often these channels create roleplay videos in which to incorporate their triggering sounds. Unsurprisingly, many of these are inspired by books!
