Ellie Kemper, lead actress of the Netflix show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has written a book all about her adventures in Hollywood as a comedic actress.
My Squirrel Days, a collection of essays, takes fans on a journey through Kemper’s life, from her youth growing up in Missouri, to her struggles to make it in the comedy industry, to eventually getting an Emmy Nomination, and the advice she has received from other comedians such as Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Steve Carell during her career. It also charts her personal development, from singledom, to marriage and motherhood. Her chapter headings are based on characters she has played from ‘Redhead’ to ‘Slob’ to ‘Starlet,’ and the title has an interesting story behind it…

Variety reports that as a sixth-grader, Kemper saw the film Dances With Wolves, and was inspired to run around her garden, trying to befriend squirrels!
Her editor, Valerie Steiker has said of the book:
Her voice on the page — smart, funny, crisp, arresting — sealed the deal. She is a born writer, with a brilliant, almost startling sense of humor—you never know where she’s going but you’re so happy to arrive.
