Who said that only kids get to have all the fun at book fairs?
If you are a bookworm who is over, or even well over 21 years of age, let me ask you: don’t you miss the old days back in school when every year you get so excited to go to the Scholastic Book Fair? That was so me back in middle school! And yet, those fairs stopped once I graduated and moved up to high school, and so ever since then, I haven’t been to publishing house-sponsored book fair – or any book fair for that matter.
However, if you have been hit by all of the nostalgic feels from my personal account of book fairs and want to relive the juvenile magic that was Mad Libs, recess, Mr. Sketch markers, and the now-obsolete Dunkaroos (OMG, Dunkaroos…!) if just for an afternoon, then look no further: Penguin Random House – a book publishing company conjoined between from both Penguin and Random House in 2013 and that brought you their very first penguin interns – is hosting its very first Book Fair in New York City that is exclusively for grownups 21 and over!

From merging to penguin interns to an adult-only Book Fair, is there anything that this conjoined company can’t do?!
The Book Fair will be held on November 23rd from 12:00 in the afternoon to 5:00 in the evening in the Lightbox venue on 248 West 37th Street in New York City.
It will be divided into 60-minute sessions, giving you the opportunity to browse around the tables stacked of and stands filled with books, as well as participate in fun, throwback activities, such as pop culture trivia, giveaways, retro crafts by glue, custom Mad Libs, Ultimate Holiday Book Fair catalog picks by insiders within the company, and so many more! Plus, you get to meet some of the company’s personal clients (a.k.a. some of the authors we had come to know and love from their written, bound works, bound by this very special company).
I mean, what more could a bookworm who grew up during the 90s and 2000s could possibly ask for than a magical time of day like this?!
Tickets are on sale now for as little as $25 and as much as $50, and a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to Read Ahead, “a nonprofit that uses reading-based mentoring to help students develop the social–emotional skills essential for academic and life-long success.”

So, if you want your childhood back for one afternoon, to relive the magic that Book Fairs had always brought to us bookworms again, as well as inspire kids to make reading both beneficial and fun and have it be an integral part of their lives to help them grow from it, then – as long as you present your ID at the door to have everyone know that you are definitely of age or above – just slap on your bracelets, smell those markers, crack open the Mad Libs, and select all of the books you could ever want from the first book fair you have ever been to in years…
