George R. R. Martin has announced his next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series…but it’s not The Winds of Winter.
Martin has released Fire and Blood, a 640-page collection of short stories detailing the history of the Targaryens. It will cover all of the Targaryen kings from Aegon I (The Conqueror) to the regency of Aegon III (The Dragonbane).
Written much like a history textbook, Fire and Blood will be part-one in a two-part collection series. Martin has promised he will release part two “in a few years.”
As for releasing The Winds of Winter, which fans have been anticipating since 2011, Martin has said “No, winter is not coming…not in 2018, at least.”
So, while any news from George R.R. Martin is exciting, his fans, well…they have a lot of feelings regarding the news…

Fire and Blood is set to release November 20, 2018. The Winds of Winter release date is still left unknown.
