Fans of The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns author now have the chance to be named in his next novel. CharityBuzz currently is auctioning this amazing prize off, and bidding closes June 30 (that’s right everybody, only one week!).
Proceeds will go to the PEN/Falkner Foundation. This nonprofit organization supports readers and writers through school reading programs, sponsoring fiction awards, and generating events to bring authors to Washington D.C. public schools.
According to the CharityBuzz website, “the winner has no influence over who his/her namesake will be, or how major a character the namesake will be. Please note the character the winner is named after is at John’s sole discretion, including all physical descriptions, etc. Exact name used in novel is subject to approval of John and cannot be explicit or vulgar.”
John Green also chimed in on Twitter, guaranteeing that while the winner has no control over their namesake character, they at least will not suffer a horrific death or death of any kind in his next book.
Those who put money down are also not guaranteed a specific book, and there is no meet and greet component to the contest. The highest bid is currently at $1,750 and the site estimates the auction’s value to be $5,000. The chance to be remembered forever in one of Green’s novels and help a good cause has brought YA fans out of the woodwork, and those with a little extra lining in the bank are bidding big.
