We love to party. Sometimes, we need a good drink to get our creative juices flowing. A good amount of writers seem to agree. Many of them were heavy drinkers (i.e. Ernest Hemingway), while others enjoyed an occasional cocktail. We surely know what our drink of choice is, but what about famous authors’?
Here are 6 drinks of choice from 6 famous writers:
1) Maya Angelou: Sherry

In an interview from 1990, Angelou said, “I might have it at six-fifteen a.m. just as soon as I get in, but usually it’s about eleven o’clock when I’ll have a glass of sherry.”
2) Oscar Wilde: Absinthe

Wilde said, “After the first glass of absinthe you see things as you wish they were. After the second you see them as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world.”
3) Edgar Allan Poe: Brandy Eggnog

4) F. Scott Fitzgerald: Gin Rickey

According to Town and Country Magazine, “Fitzgerald reportedly favored gin because it was undetectable on his breath. Of his love for cocktails, he famously said, ‘First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.'”
5) Anne Sexton: Martini

Anne and Sylvia Plath were friends and often had martinis together. After Plath’s death, Anne wrote a poem about drinking martinis with her.
6) Dorothy Parker: Whiskey Sour

Parker was known to enjoy whiskey sours and even said, “I wish I could drink like a lady. I can take one or two at the most. Three and I’m under the table. Four and I’m under the host.”
